The easiest way to get to Herculaneum is the Circumvesuviana train from Naples. Get off at Ercolano Scavi and walk about 6 minutes to the entrance at Corso Resina 187. By car, take the A3 and leave at the Ercolano Scavi exit.

The Circumvesuviana is the regional railway between Naples and Sorrento, run by EAV. Buy a ticket to Ercolano Scavi, which is the stop for the archaeological park. The official directions are on the park’s how to get there page.
From Naples
Take the train in the direction of Sorrento from the Napoli Garibaldi terminal. A 2026 guide counts about one train every 30 minutes in each direction, and Ercolano Scavi is stop 13 on the line. We could not confirm the journey time from an official source, so check the timetable on the EAV website.
From Sorrento
Take the same line in the direction of Naples and get off at Ercolano Scavi. The timetable is on the EAV website.
From Pompeii
It is the same line: Pompeii’s stop is Pompei Scavi - Villa dei Misteri, not Pompei Santuario, which is on a different Trenitalia line.
How do I get there by car?
Take the A3 Naples-Salerno motorway and leave at Ercolano Scavi, then follow the signs for the Parco Archeologico di Ercolano. The official page mentions several private car parks in the area and the municipal car park in Viale dei Papiri Ercolanesi; it gives no prices.
Cruise passengers from the port of Naples
We could not confirm a route from the port with an official source. A practical option is to reach Napoli Garibaldi first, then take the Circumvesuviana. Check the current options before you go.
Entrances
The main entrance is Corso Resina 187. The official page also lists Via dei Papiri Ercolanesi 19 as an entrance and exit. See the opening hours before you set off: last entry is 15:30 from 15 October to 15 March.
